Global Director of Human Resources (Cumberland, RI)

The Global Director of Human Resources will lead the HR department for a large private, international company headquartered in Rhode Island with offices in Nevada, Washington state, Florida, the UK, Germany, Bulgaria, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand and Canada. The ideal candidate must be able to establish and managing compliance with policies and best practices for the organization, administering benefits and supervising the HR and Recruitment team. The Global Director of Human Resources will also be responsible for performance management and personnel compliance with full-time headquarters staff and overseas employees and advising offices around the world.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervise Human Resources consultants and training specialists, and coordinate company use of insurance brokers, insurance carriers, retirement plan administrators, and other outside sources
  • Coach and mentor department heads and managers with the highest level of confidentiality
  • Ensure HR staff addresses employees’ requests and grievances in a timely manner
  • Maintain HR procedures that comply with labor regulations
  • Work collaboratively with executive management, HR team, and other stakeholders to maintain a desirable company culture
  • Manage employee relations issues for headquarters and international staff, including coordinating and engaging with field office-based HR staff. In conjunction with legal department and local counsel ensure compliance with U.S. and international labor laws, supporting audits as necessary
  • Provide tools and guidelines to support and implement policies and procedures, domestic and international employment agreements, development of HRIS, field office employee manuals, benefit summaries and compensation guidelines to keep management informed and current
  • Manage the recruiting, selection process, and on-boarding processes. Advise management on best practices for candidate selection
  • Lead development and execution of employee engagement and retention strategies, plans, and initiatives including the design and implementation of a training, mentoring and professional development and succession plans
  • In consultation with the legal department, resolve complex employee relations issues (such as harassment and discrimination allegations), using appropriate counseling, investigative, intervention and mediation techniques
  • Manage employee welfare, wellness and health programs for domestic staff, domestic employee safety and provide guidance and support to the international offices’ welfare, wellness and health programs

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Human Resources professional with 10+ years of progressive human resources/organization development experience
  • Proven experience in developing successful company wide training programs including new hire training, leadership development, and specific job function training
  • Previous management experience required; at least 5 years preferred
  • Experience selecting, implementing and using Human Resources Management Software and HR IT systems preferred
  • Experience in domestic HR operations; international experience preferred
  • Deep and broad understanding of employment law, recruitment and selection, employee relations, compensation, and benefits
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and collaboratively about staff development and training
  • Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, complex, decentralized and geographically diverse organizational structure
  • Ability to determine and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Superior communications skills, oral and written
  • Strong strategic and problem-solving skills
